It's Official - Pine Lake Merges with Trout Lake
2010 Summer Camp Brochures are Available
Thus begins the tale of great kings. This summer, Trout Lake Camps shall re-live the extraordinary accounts of the Old Testament kings, seeking out the true history of those that came before us. Few among these kings created a legacy that would stand the test of time.
Yet, a small count separated themselves from the rest. They became Great Kings that spent a lifetime seeking the will of God, leaving a legacy of honor and truth.
Will you join the quest that lies before us?
2 Chronicles 31:20-21
If you are interested in having the best week of your summer at Trout Lake Camps? Contact us today and we will send you a 2010 summer camp brochure. See you this summer.
Summer Staff New Years was a Blast
Almost 50 summer staffers were at Timber Ridge bringing in the New Year. From late night card games to tubing at TR, fun was had and memories were made. James Rock and company provided the activities and entertainment while staffers simply enjoyed their time.
Dining Hall Kitchen Floor Poured
The dining hall has been enclosed for the winter which means our electricians and sound techs can pull the wiring in a warm building. The first layer of insulation has been sprayed and interior walls are being erected. Also, the cement floor in the kitchen has been poured. Mark and Al are busy building the stairs so that workers can access all three levels of the dining hall.
Top of Pikes Peak

James, Ben and Abby enjoy the top of Pikes Peak Mountain in Colorado. It was a 19 mile drive up the mountain with hairpin turns, ice on the roads and bighorn sheep near the road. All in all, it was an incredible adventure. They and other staff members attended the National Christian Camp and Conference Association Meeting.
Windows Installed

This week the construction at Timber Ridge has been fast and furious. We have the roofers here, the windows were installed, the application of the cultured stone is almost complete, volunteers from Berean are working on the electrical and the 248' well was dug. Check out the new Kolbe windows.
Retired Pastors and Missionaries Retreat

At Trout Lake Camps we have amazing programming for campers and guests. We do wild and crazy activities for the young at heart and for those with years of wisdom. Check out these retired pastors and missionaries who attended the "Remembering the 60's" party at Shalom House. Good times.
Vern is Back

Vern has returned to Trout Lake Camps to help build the new dining hall fireplace. He has been assisting Doug Carlson, our block layer, by helping place the cultured stone on the exterior of the building. If you are interested in volunteering contact Mark Grindahl at 218-820-3463. Thanks Vern.
Roofing The Point Office

Thanks to Derrick, Adam, Paul (see photo above) and the men from Galilee Baptist Church, Circle Pines who put a new roof on our main office building at The Point. This project was completed in one day and we are thankful to the many volunteers who help keep Trout Lake Camps in good condition.
Fall Youth Retreats in Full Swing

Check out the new wiffle ball stadium at Trout Lake Camps. The field is a replica (23% scale) or "is made in the likeness of" the new Target Field and is being used for our fall retreat theme. We are challenging youth to model Christ-likeness and focusing on 2 Corinthians 3:18, "And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."
Summer of 2009
God moved in the hearts of kids and teens this summer at Trout Lake Camps. Over 115 campers made a first time commitment to Jesus, 320 kids rededicated their lives to Jesus and over 50 campers decided they wanted to go into full-time Christian service. Our summer staff loved the campers, shared the message of Jesus with them, provided a safe environment and the response from parents was extremely positive. We look forward to preparing for the summer of 2010.
Men's Retreat Offering was Huge
For decades, men's retreat attendees have been supporting the mission and vision of Trout Lake Camps. Many men volunteer their time and talents at Trout by building and renovating our facilities. In the last several years numerous projects have been completed (health lodge, Shalom House, main kitchen flooring, upper restrooms and more) by volunteers. Also, the men's retreat legacy of giving to Trout was extended again as the offering was an answer to prayer. Over $12,800 was given to help renovate the lower restrooms. Thank you men's retreat for another great offering. Praise God.
New Wiffle Ballpark

Volunteers and staff begin to lay the foundation and walls for our new Wiffle-Ball stadium. Thanks to Matt, Banfield, Sorbel, Rock, Dale and Abby, the "Twin Ballpark" will be ready for the 1st fall retreat on Oct. 2. Our ballpark is a replica of the new Twins Stadium called Target Field. Just imagine hitting that homer you have always wanted...in the new Twin Ballpark at Trout Lake Camps.
Staff Night Out

There is nothing like traveling back in time and riding in a 1974 VW Hippie Van. Several of our summer staffers decided to take the VW into Crosslake to get 2 for 1 ice cream cones at the Chocolate Ox. The van drove beautifully to the ice cream store and as we were pulling in, she (the VW) died right in the middle of our parking spot.
Needless to say, we purchased our 2 for 1 ice cream cones and enjoyed taking photos in front of the van. After 10 minutes of trying to get it started, Parker and Cory (mechanics from Duluth) helped us determine what the problem was with the van.
One hour later we were back on the road and heading back to camp. Thank you Cory and Parker...we never would have made it without you.
Meet Our New Volunteer - Karen

Karen was surfing her home church’s web site and clicked the link to Trout Lake Camps. She noticed on our web site that we are in the process of constructing a new dining hall. Since she had several weeks off of work, she called Mark Grindahl, our Maintenance Director who coordinates volunteers, and volunteered over two weeks of her time.
The great news about Karen is she is a “heavy equipment operator” and is helping us out in a major way. Her skills with heavy equipment help reduce the total cost of the project as well as speed up the construction timeline.
Thanks Karen for your hard work!
Cultured Stone and Final Painting
Shalom House looks completely different now that the siding is all on and the front has been painted. Just last week we installed the street lights, sprinkler system and completed the landscaping. There are only a couple small miscellaneous projects left like planting the flowers in the flower pots, installing the cultured stone and final painting.
Thanks to all of you who helped with this Project 365 renovation project. It would not happen without you donating your time and money to Trout.
Foundation is In
This past week the foundation was backfilled and we are preparing to pour the cement on the lower level. This work has been completed by numerous volunteers and some paid sub-contractors. Mark Grindahl is doing a great job managing the project as he works with our architects, state and county regulators, sub-contractors and the numerous volunteers who offer their time to Trout.
It is wonderful to see the progress on the new dining hall and thanks for all your support financially and through volunteer help.
Camper Stephanie Writes About the Trout Experience
Dong! Dong! Dong! That's the sound of the morning bell making heavy sounds to tell us it's time to wake up at Trout Lake Camps (TLC). The taste of their melty, warm cinnamon rolls is splendid. The cafeteria is as loud as a herd of elephants running over a field. Breakfast is over now, it is time to go to chapel.
The speaker is phenomenal. He can even gear his messages towards kids. Now he releases us to go do our family activities.
There are so many exotic activities at TLC! They have really relaxing pontoon rides that take you to ice cream shops across the lake. You can feel the smooth outer cover of the rifles at the shooting range. There are sling shots and archery. You can go to the beach and leap onto the "BLOB" and then get catapulted off. The "BLOB" is like a giant pillow floating in the water. Trout even has a water slide in the lake. I love the daring zip line. The zip line is like a giant building that you have to jump off of. Don't forget the fantastic tubing and shark boating. During all of the excitement the sun is smiling down on you. You can see all of the people signing up for a gigantic variety of activities.
Trout has great morning and afternoon activities for kids, teens and adults. The adults have activities such as: games, archery, sling shots, and romantic stuff. Kids and teens get to go canoeing, learn about God, have bonfires and go on the caterpillar. The caterpillar is a tractor with lots of rusty carts that it pulls behind it. When you ride the caterpillar it is thrilling because you get thrown side to side.
TLC has so many exciting things for everyone to do and during it all you get to learn about God.
Trout Volunteers Install Swim Docks

A big "thank you" to a group of guys from Calvary Church in Roseville (left to right: Aaron, Scott, Ryan, David and Phil) because they installed the swim docks. While they were at Trout, the weather was wonderful and the water was freezing. Thank you guys!
For over 60 years, Trout Lake Camps has been built by volunteers and TLC welcomes individuals and groups with any skill level. Contact Mark (218-543-4565) at Trout to setup a time to serve on one of our many projects.
Rich McMaken Wins a 52' HDTV

The Trout Lake Camps Classic Golf Tourney was a huge hit this year. With the tourney being pushed back one week to mid May, the weather was beautiful. Over 100 golfers attended the event and all proceeds helped support the ministry of TLC. Great door prizes from the Masters, FBR Open and Mercedes Championship were raffled off and the winning score in each division was 12 under par.
One highlight of the day was the Ultimate Putt. The five foot Ultimate Putt was single elimination with the option to "donate back in" to make it to the next round. Over 40 participated, over a dozen rounds completed and the winner Rich McMaken made the last five footer to win the Sony 52" HDTV. Congratulations Rich.
Pine Cone Deck Addition

On the west side of Pine Cone, Timber Ridge's temporary dining hall, we added an additional 460 square foot deck. This area will provide outdoor seating for junior high campers and staff who desperately need the extra space. Much of this work was completed by volunteers.
Concrete Block Walls Are Up

This week the concrete block walls are being put into place. Doug, Marty and others are helping lay the foundation. The project is well underway and it is exciting to see progress.
Iowa Baptist Conference Makes Another Step Forward

On May 2, the members of the Iowa Baptist Conference voted unanimously to move forward with the Minnesota Baptist Conference merger. Skip Hansen from Iowa and Dan Carlson from Minnesota (see photo above) are leading the charge in the merger. There are still several important steps and votes remaining to complete this merge but both Iowa and Minnesota seem to be favorable towards merging.
So, what does this mean for Trout Lake Camps? If the merge is complete in early 2010, then another camp called Pine Lake will become another ministry branch of Trout Lake. Our staff and their staff would become one and many cost savings would occur because of the new merger. Many other details would need to be addressed and we are beginning to make a list of "merging issues" that are specifically related to the two camps.
These are exciting days for Trout Lake Camps. We will keep you posted on the progress.
New Dining Hall Ground Breaking

Kenny Elg and Mark Grindahl are marking out the location of the new dining hall at Timber Ridge. This building will seat 280 guests with over 10,060 square feet on the main floor. Over the next several weeks the dirt is going to be flying and the foundations will be poured. These are exciting days at Trout Lake Camps.
ServTeam is a HUGE success
It takes many volunteers giving hours of service to prepare TLC for summer-time ministry. Right now individuals are cleaning cabins, washing windows and organizing craft supplies. Each program area is setup for the first week of camp which begins on June 14. This work is completed by over 145 ServTeam volunteers who give their time and talents to God's ministry at Trout.
If you are interested in serving at Trout as a volunteer, contact us 218-543-4565.
Shalom House Renovation Update III

Shalom House has an entirely new look with siding now installed. Almost 1/4 of Shalom has new cement board siding and volunteers, like Malcolm from Duluth, have significantly reduced the cost of labor which keeps the overall project costs down. Your donated dollars are extending further with the dozens of volunteers who have worked on Shalom. The next steps are to paint, install the sprinkler system and complete the landscaping.
Pine Lake Camp might merge with TLC Part II
Monday night, March 2, 2009, the Minnesota Board of Stewards voted unanimously to approve the forward movement of next steps toward a merger with the Iowa Baptist Conference. This is another step forward that might bring Pine Lake into the family of camps called Trout Lake.
Please continue to pray for the Minnesota Baptist Conference leadership as they continue to seek God in the potential merging of Iowa into Minnesota.
TLC Sweatshirt Story
Dear TLC staff,
God was at work on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. I was at our office in the morning when a young man came in and said to dial 911. After asking a few questions I know they needed my help. I told Dallas, my coworker, to call 911 and I hurried to the accident scene about 1/4 miles away. I saw the driver who was hurt and looking in my back seat for anything I could use to help stop the bleeding. I found a Trout Lake Camps sweatshirt that my son had gotten a few years back while at Trout. I put it to use to help stop the bleeding and retain some heat for the woman as it was 26 degrees below zero outside. For 15 minutes God's love was around her head as I applied direct pressure to her facial wounds using the TLC sweatshirt! Amazingly, she was airlifted to Duluth and treated for minor injuries. She was released later that night and returned home! God truly does work miracles in many ways!
My best to you all,
Shawn
ServTeam Registration Update
Marilyn Starr is leading ServTeam I (April 13-17) and 21 people are registered. John Dekkenga is leading ServTeam II (April 19-24) and 38 people are registered. Roger Camerer is leading ServTeam III (April 26-May 1) and 24 people are registered. Remaining rooms are filling quickly so contact the Trout office (218-543-4565) to sign up.
Summer Camp Brochures are Available
Hot off the press. The summer camp brochures are now available and the PDF will be posted soon. Everyone who has attended Trout Lake Camps (in the last two years) should receive a brochure in the mail and if you would like to request a brochure via mail, simply email Trout through the contact us page.
New Years Staff Reunion Party was a Hit

Around 40 summer staffers enjoyed an incredible two days at Trout playing broomball on the new Timber Ridge rink, floor hockey, rock climbing in The Barn, Zorbaz and of course...tubing. Also, Tommy and Matt enjoyed a little white washing.
Pine Lake Camp might merge with TLC
On November 24, 2008 the Iowa Baptist Conference (IBC) Board of Overseers unanimously accepted the TASK FORCE counsel and advice that the IBC should seek to merge with the Minnesota Baptist Conference. This is another step forward in a potential ministry agreement with the IBC which includes Pine Lake Christian Camp.
Leadership within the MBC is beginning to evaluate the impact of a merger with the IBC. Specific details regarding votes, communication meetings and the process for state wide input will be made available when known. What is known is leadership from both sides desire to seek God in this opportunity and follow His will for their respective ministries in Minnesota and Iowa.
What does this mean for Trout Lake Camps? It means that sometime in the future there could be a new ministry opportunity in Iowa. Through the years Pine Lake Christian Camp has been used by God to change the lives of kids, teens and adults. Evaluation and discovery of a modified camping ministry vision could take place if both the MBC and IBC come together in ministry. These are exciting days for the MBC and Trout Lake Camps.
Shalom House Renovation Update II

The front of Shalom is changing daily as Mark Grindahl and Al Diers modify the building. Also, the windows are being installed during the month of December and installation will be completed before Christmas. These new windows will significantly reduce the heating costs during the winter. For those partners in ministry participating in Project 365, thanks for helping fund this project.
TLC's New Years Party
This is a rockin' New Years party for FULL TIME STAFF of the past few years or so! There will be tubing, eating, pokering, broomballing, rooking, hanging out, swing dancing, wiiing, sleeping, zorbazing, breaking bread, rock climbing, floor hockeying, snowboarding, snacking, bouldering, catching up with old friends, carpet balling, and reminiscing---and oh yeah, getting psyched up for next summer! See who is coming on facebook (search Trout Lake Camps Reunion New Years Party)
Roger Camerer's Wife (Jean) Receives Good News
Many of you have been praying and waiting for Jean Camerer's biopsy results. At 7:15pm Jean received a call from the nurse indicating that the test results were negative. Jean does have an infection but it is treatable and she should be fine in the near future. Thank you for your prayers. God is faithful.
Shalom House Renovation Update

The exterior siding has been removed, the windows have been ordered, cement steps have been poured and the retaining walls are completed. Currently, the construction of the new covered entrance is underway with Mark Grindahl and Al Diers leading the charge of renovating the exterior of Shalom House. Because of many financial partners involved in Project 365, we hope to finish this renovation in late spring.
Fall Refreshment a Huge Hit
Women's retreat was September 12-14 at Trout. Heather Flies, Junior High Pastor at Wooddale Church was the keynote speaker. Vanessa Gamble, Theater of the Thirsty presented a drama called "The Bigger Picture" and lead worship over the weekend. We had 320 women in attendance. The retreat team was led by Dorothy Heschke and they did excellent work in planning and implementing the retreat.

Al Diers (wife Marietta) has a Baby Boy
Al and Marietta Diers welcome Gabriel Sean Diers into their family on September 23, 2008. Gabriel was 9 lbs. 9 1/2 oz and 21 1/2 inches long. Praise God for a safe delivery.
From Wick’s Desk - 2008 Reflections

This summer at Trout Lake Camps has been a true blessing from God. We have seen over 150 campers make a first time decision to follow Jesus and that has eternal impact in the Kingdom of God. Over 350 campers recognized they had not been following God as they desired so they rededicated their lives to Jesus. 18 kids and teens made a commitment to go into full-time Christian service. I don’t fully understand the implication of these spiritual decisions but it is my prayer that God would continue to shape the hearts and minds of these young believers.
I am thankful for all of you who partner with God’s ministry at Trout. Your prayer and financial support is being used by God to expand His Kingdom and that is exciting. Project 365, our dollar a day capital renovation campaign, went extremely well as we made major improvements to numerous areas around camp. We now enter into the second year of Project 365 looking for more individuals and couples to partner with us financially so that we can restore the exterior of Shalom House.
Thanks for your continue prayer support and may God bless you as we enter into this fall season.
On behalf of Christ and kids,
Wick
A Season of Change

Trout Lake Camps is experiencing tremendous change this summer. Below is a snapshot of new ministry initiatives and changes which will positively impact the way in which Trout participates in ministry.
Day Camps - For the first time ever, Trout is partnering with the local church to host Day Camps. Our goal is to come along side a church and strengthen their children’s outreach program by providing a great four-day VBS. Day Camp includes a closing outreach event for the community and our trained staff stay in the homes of church families.
Timber Ridge - a new and hip camp designed for 6th-8th grade students will open on June 15, 2008. Timber Ridge is a combination of crazy over-the-top experiences and structured time to build relationships with our summer staff. At the core of this new camp is our purpose...to challenge teens to follow Jesus and live a life pleasing to Him.
Project 365 - Our $1 per day campaign to raise money which is used to repair the “old” parts of camp is well underway. We have approximately 340 days of the 365 pledged. Two major projects are almost completed and the immediate impact of Project 365 will be noticed by guests.
Cabin Names at The Point - This year we have changed the names of cabins on The Point to better orientate first time guests at Trout. The lower cabins (Primary Camp) near the lake are now fish names which are in alphabetical order from the Soda Fountain to the Motel. Timber Ridge cabins (Young Teens Camp) are named in tree clusters to maintain the “tree theme” at Timber Ridge. The upper cabins (Juniors Camp) at The Point are now animal names.
In light of these changes, we look to Christ to guide, direct and unify us as we press forward through the changes. Would you pray with and for us? Pray that God would change the lives of thousands of campers who will be in our care this summer. Also, pray for safety and wisdom as we serve kids who come from diverse backgrounds. Thanks and see you this summer at Moses’ Red C Ranch!
On behalf of Christ and kids,
Wick
“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

Trout Lake Camps Launches "Project 365"
Several weeks ago Trout launched an aggressive effort to fund the repair and replacement of numerous facilities at The Point and Shalom House. The fundraising drive is called Project 365 because we are identifying 365 partners who will give $1 a day to help this cause.
Project 365 is about enabling the spiritual impact of Trout Lake Camps to continue into the future. For 60 years this camp has been a meeting place with God. Trout needs 365 people willing to donate $1 per day. It adds up to $365 per year from each person, but a total of more that $130,000 per year from all 365 contributors. That’s enough to begin to tackle the lengthy list of improvement projects and continue the legacy of spiritual impact that has seen over 25,000 significant spiritual decisions in 60 years.
Some of the projects include:
Restroom Upgrades on The Point
Cabin Modifications
Shalom House Overhaul
Vehicle Replacement Program
Dining Hall Upgrades
And much more
If you are interested in learning more about Project 365 contact Jon Wicklund at 651.278.8077.
Trout Offers Day Camps in 2008
Do you find it difficult to recruit kid’s ministry volunteers to staff your VBS or day camp program? Partnering with Trout will greatly reduce this challenge because we are launching day camps in 2008.
Our purpose is to further God’s kingdom by providing our churches with the critical elements (trained staff, appropriate curriculum, music, recreation, and a closing event) necessary for an excellent, camp-like experience at a host church for 1st through 6th graders.
This 4-day experience includes counselors, music leaders, game leaders and craft leaders. Service learning projects are incorporated into the curriculum so that the host church, it’s kids and lay leaders are visible within the surrounding community. The closing event on Thursday night encourages all parents of campers to consider making Jesus the priority in their lives and allows for a non-threatening introduction of church leaders to the campers’ parents.
For more information contact Jon at 651.278.8077.
From Wick’s Desk - God is Good
God is good!
This past summer was incredible at Trout Lake Camps. It was Friday night after the last chapel and I was talking with my wife, brother and sister-in-law. We pondered the evening message on 2 Timothy 4:1-2 “I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction.” Time and time again, the four of us sat back and praised God for passionate, relational, theologically solid biblical instruction at Trout. We knew during chapel the Holy Spirit was urging campers and us to be bold, prepared and ready to communicate the life-changing message of Christ. To summarize that evening...praise God for working in our lives and the lives of campers as 1 in 7 campers made either: a 1st time decision to follow Christ or rededicating their life to Christ or a decision to be in full-time Christian service. Wow!
Second, we made great strides in furthering the vision of Trout by completing and starting many new construction projects. This past summer over 1 mile of new roads were constructed. We broke ground on cabin 10 and 11 at Timber Ridge along with starting another bathhouse. The Timber Ridge 50yd x 100yd ball field is leveled, sprinkler system installed and will be seeded in mid-October. Also, the renovation of the health lodge at The Point has begun and our volunteers have been fantastic!
Things are changing quickly at camp and please keep us in your prayers as we follow His lead, one step at a time.
On behalf of Christ and kids,
Wick
We have the Green Light!
The last several months have been a wonderful rollercoaster experience at Trout Lake Camps. First, we have seen God’s miraculous protection over our construction volunteers and staff who serve at camp. Second, on Sept 22, 2005 we received the “green light” from Crow Wing County Planning and Zoning about our new master site plan. The bottom line is we can construct everything we applied for and our setback from the property line was reduced from 200’ to 50’. Third, we received the largest one-time gift in the history of the Minnesota Baptist Conference of 1,000,000 dollars which was completely designated to camping ministries. God’s perfect timing and the hard work of Truett Lawson cultivating this relationship could not have come at a better time as Timber Ridge building funds were exhausted.
Personally, I believe we are approaching the most exciting times in the history of Trout Lake. With Timber Ridge almost ready to launch its summer camping programs, we are posed to have the greatest number of kids and teens hear the life changing message of Jesus Christ in 2006. Would you be praying with me that the Holy Spirit would continue His work with guests and staff at Trout? Also, we ask you to pray that God would give the camp staff discernment and Godly wisdom as we prepare for the future.
In Christ,
Wick
From Wick's Desk - Preparing for the Summer
We are earnestly preparing for a tremendous season of summer camp that is just around the corner, but behind the scenes, we want you to know, that we are seeking God for direction and wisdom for how he will use this amazing tool to reach the next generation, and the next, and the next with the outstanding love and grace of Jesus Christ.
Over the last several weeks we have completed two significant projects which will aid future expansion. First, our site layout plan for Timber Ridge is complete and within the next several weeks we will be working with Crow Wing County planning and zoning to discuss the proposed expansion. Our intent is to clearly communicate to Crow Wing officials our site plan and receive the “green light” for future construction.
Second, our staff has completed the framework for new ministry plan for Trout and Timber Ridge as we will have an increased capacity of 120-180 camper beds per week. This new ministry plan includes age-specific programming for boys and girls of all ages. Using program models that address the developmental and spiritual needs of different stages of childhood, we will increase our effectiveness, ministering with equal vigor to 1st grade campers through senior high young adults. The new model, which will be implemented in phases, includes the opportunity for Trout Lake to serve campers in every age group in a program tailored just for them simultaneously! In other words, families will soon be able to bring all of their children in a single week, rather than having to make multiple trips throughout the summer.
Please keep us in your prayers as we follow his lead, one step at a time.
On behalf of Christ and kids,
Wick
You can Reach Out to your Community through Trout Lake Camps
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20.
As the body of believers, we are called to participate in the great commission. Many of us embrace this charge personally by actively telling our neighbors and friends about Jesus and what he has done for us. Others of us enter into evangelistic opportunities by spending our time with people in our same life-stage, that is, friends who are single, parents with kids the same age as ours, or fellow retirees, allowing our lives to bear witness to the difference Christ makes. Corporately, the church engages in community outreach with all age groups and most churches recognize one extremely effective way of local evangelism is through children’s ministry.
Research shows that the spiritual maturity process should start at a young age…a person’s response to the meaning and personal value of Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection is usually determined before a person reaches eighteen. In fact, a majority of Americans make a lasting determination about the personal significance of Christ’s death and resurrection by age 12.
Understanding the implications of this fact might cause your local church to focus its outreach strategies towards the evangelization of children. Your involvement in the fellowship of churches called the MBC provides numerous benefits to the local church. One unique ministry asset which can be leveraged to maximize your local outreach efforts to help introduce children to Christ is Trout Lake Camp.
TLC’s mission is to create and maintain an environment where individuals can come and be challenged to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It is also a place designed to disciple Christians to a greater maturity in Jesus Christ by providing an environment where they can come away from the routines of daily living and be renewed. The children in your church can be instruments of God by inviting non-Christian friends to camp with the hope that these friends will make significant, life-changing decisions at camp. Many non-churched families who might be hesitant to come to church are likely to be receptive to a week at camp for their children and teens. Perhaps your church can offer creative incentives for families to consider this opportunity, such as offering partial scholarships to sponsor non-churched children, or rewarding families who do bring a guest who is a non-attender.
Hundreds of spiritual decisions are made at TLC each year, but it is your local church that has the privilege of following-up with each child and family about what God has begun in their lives. The “outreach door” is open between your church and the non-Christian family as a result of a shared week at camp. Pastors, church staff, and volunteers in the kid’s ministry program can make calls or visits to the family, extending the camp experience and nurturing decisions made. Hopefully, this meaningful engagement will lead to regular participation in your church. Actively pursuing a camper or camper’s family TLC experience is a wonderful way to reach out to neighbors and friends, and a byproduct of this strategy is that congregants are equipped to participate in evangelism in a very natural and comfortable way.
We want you to know that TLC is your camp. It is a tool that we want you to use in reaching out to those within your neighborhood. With God’s miraculous intervention, outreach synergies between the local church and the camp will radically impact the kingdom of God. If there is anything we can do to serve your local church more effectively, please don’t hesitate to call.
On behalf of Christ and kids,
Jonathan Wicklund
